Airforce attaining the rank of Airmen second class; he was honorably discharged in 1957 at West over Airforce Base in Chicopee MA.He is survived by his children Jimmy Trahan of Springfield MA and daughter Susan Lyman of Jacksonville Fl as well as two sisters who still reside in Montana, Eileen Antoinette Trahan Quest and Theresa Ducharme Morigeau. S Marine Corps, he served in Korea attained the rank of Corporal and received the following medals: The Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service /Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal. He remained in the area and this is where he met his wife of 39 years and raised his step children whom he adopted with Gail.She also saw ACDC, Tom Petty, Bob Marley, Sammy Hagar and B. both of Niarada near Hot Springs, August Lefthand of Polson, Kenny (Little Man) Scabby Robe of White Swan, WA., sisters Anastasia (Ruby) Lefthand Burke of Wellpinit, WA., Mary Catherine (Pooyah) Lefthand of Polson.She has also been able to help advocate for opening her home to help raise nephews, Pierre Malatare and Paul Malatare, nieces, Carolyn Malatare Madplume, Harriet Malatare, as well as being a Foster Parent to Woody and Charlyn Bigcrane, and two grandsons that she loved and cared for as her very own Basil Lefthand, D. Pierre III, and granddaughters Payton Lefthand, Salisha Pierre they’re mother, a niece Shawnda Lefthand.
Susan was a born leader because her leadership skills helped her be a Native American princess, teacher, mother, wife, sister, aunt and grandmother.

Susan is survived by her husband, Joe Dowdall of Polson; her son, Justin Mc Broom of Polson and her God Children Harriet Faye (Muckie) Malatare of Browning and Claire Charlo of Polson; brothers Nick Lefthand and Basil Lefthand Jr.
